Here we are working for Tam Valley Community Services District, an area between Mill Valley and Sausalito. The project is a Eucalyptus eradication program for improved fire safety. A grove of 22 trees growing between homes are being removed, Eucalyptus are a non-native species of trees originally imported from Australia for timber production. The wood, while dense and straight, turned out to be poor quality lumber for the mass markets.
Some of the Eucalyptus wood we harvest becomes hardwood flooring material, art pieces and landscape timber. In fact we help pilot a wood repurposing program with the City of Mill Valley for the famous Dipsea Stairway replacement program using Eucalyptus logs we had harvested. Most Eucalyptus logs are ground up and used for cogeneration or firewood.
