Sustainability Efforts by Treemasters in San Rafael and the Bay Area

We believe that our communities deserve a beautiful, strong, and healthy environment. That’s why Treemasters is committed to eco-friendly tree care services and doing everything we can in our day-to-day business practices to ensure we leave as little an impact on the Earth as possible.

Environmentally Responsible Arborists

Our commitment to greener business practices began all the way back in 1999. Since then, we’ve made a wide range of adjustments to our daily operations to reduce our carbon footprint.

Some of our sustainability efforts include:

Biofuels

Biofuels are produced using renewable resources; they also provide better fuel economy and lower emissions outputs than traditional fuel options. We’re proud to say biofuels have been part of our business practices since 1998, and we utilize them to power our vehicles and equipment wherever possible.

Our petroleum-free diesel is called NEXDIESEL, which is 100% renewable and sustainable. Compared to traditional fossil fuels, this product reduces greenhouse gas emissions by over 40-90% during the product’s entire life cycle.

Solar Panels

Since 2008, our shop has been powered completely by solar energy. These panels were installed by Marin Solar, a local partner who supports our efforts to preserve the environment. Marin Solar was the recipient of the 2007 Pacific Sun Readers Poll Best of Marin, and they still maintain our panels to this day.

Biodegradable Lubricants

Our chainsaws can use up to one gallon of oil in a single day. That’s a lot of oil, and that’s why we’ve been using eco-friendly biodegradable lubricants since 1998. Biodegradable lubricants are much safer for the environment, and though they are more expensive than traditional petroleum-based lubricants, we believe the benefits far outweigh the costs.

We only use Motion Lotion Biodegradable Bar & Chain Oil in all of our chainsaws, which is essentially industrial-grade cooking oil; a product that is virtually harmless to plants and animals on your property. For all of our small 2-cycle engine equipment, including our chainsaws, we use Stihl HP Ultra 2-Cycle Engine Oil, which will biodegrade in a matter of days.

Proactive Maintenance

Our maintenance and repair shop is an integral part of our dedication to helping preserve the environment. At the end of each work day, our highly trained mechanics clean and service each piece of equipment for use the following morning.

The regular servicing of our equipment helps us reduce the amount of resources we consume and the amount of contaminants we release into the environment. A properly serviced wood chipper or chainsaw, for example, will work more efficiently, consuming less fuel and oil and releasing less exhaust into the air.

Certified by the Bay Area Green Business Program

Recently, Treemasters was recognized as a CERTIFIED Green Business by the Bay Area Green Business Program, the first tree care company in the Bay Area to receive this recognition. For Treemasters, this is not just a hollow business tactic, but recognition of a proud dedication to preserving the environment for future generations through ecologically sound business practices.
